The oldest Synagogue in Nachlaot / Jerusalem

B"H

Nachlaot, Jerusalem's neighbourhood reminding me so much of Zfat or Tel Aviv's popular Neve Zedek. Back in the 50ies and 60ies, Nachlaot was mainly populated by Kurdish and Moroccan Jews. Until only a few years ago, the neighbourhood used to be still affordable. When I used to live there together with flatmates, we were hardly able finding new people for sharing the apartment. Back in 2000, 2001 and 2002, people wanted to live in the German Colony, Old Katamon or on the French Hill but definitely not in Nachlaot.

All this has changed when a large amount of new immigrants from the US moved in. The entire neighbourhood has changed its face and rents have been skyrocketing. Nevertheless, there are till some of the old Sephardic inhabitants and we find the famous Syrian Synagogue as well as the oldest Synagogue (Persian) in Nachlaot.
