Starting next Sunday, the Jewish world is entering the three weeks before Tisha be’Av (9th Av). A day standing for the destruction of both Jewish Temples.

Sunday itself, the 17 Tammuz, is a 13 hour fast day where we commemorate the Babylonians, and, later on, the Romans, reaching the outer Temple wall. In fact there is a discussion in Talmud Tractate Ta’anit 28 whether, in the days of the First Tempel, the outer wall was reached on 9 Tammuz or on 17 Tammuz. However, the Talmud Yerushalmi in Ta’anit 23 states that the Babylonians reached the outer Temple wall on 17 Tammuz (as we commemorate on Sunday).

I am going to put lots of information about the significance of those three weeks into this blog. Midrashim, Kabbalah as well as stories.
